Records, 1882-1982.

Records include annual reports, yearbooks, photographs, alumnae association records, commencement and school anniversary programs, correspondence, historical narratives, and student rosters, newsletters, notebooks and memorabilia. Annual reports (bulk 1883-1902) include student rules, lecture topics, by-laws, photos, donor lists, and financial statements. Yearbooks (1928-1982) and the student newsletter, "The Chatterbox" (1928-1956), provide details of student social activities and extracurricular interests, hospital and school history, and alumnae and faculty news. Collection includes class photographs for most of the school's 100 years. Also, both formal and informal photos of students in training and at social outings. Other images: hospital and school staff, WWI soldiers, building facilities, and alumnae events. Bulk of photos are from 1884-1930. Also, school catalogues, newspaper clippings, national nursing alumnae association convention minutes and by-laws, and affiliation contracts with Essex County Hospital and Greystone Park. Of note is "Some Account of the Orange Training School for Nurses" (1899), a history of the school's earliest days.

Orange Memorial Hospital School of Nursing (Essex County, N.J.), founded in 1882 through the efforts of Dr. Thomas W. Harvey, as the Orange Training School for Nurses. Taken over by Orange Memorial Hospital in 1906, the school name was officially changed in 1919. As part of their training in the early 1900s, nursing students were required to spend three month's residence in the Orange Settlement on Valley Street, serving as visiting nurses for the poor.
